Sarawak Energy Technology Day 2018

TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP & COMPETENCY

KUCHING, 7 JULY 2018, Saturday:  Sarawak Energy’s annual Technology Day aims to bring people who use technology with the people who provide technology together on the platform in charting the technology roadmap for the power utility and energy development corporation.

The 2018 edition featured keynote addresses by internationally renowned speakers from the field of innovative solutions: Pulkit Jaiswal, Founder of Swarmx and Francis Wong Kiam Foi, Deputy Director of Huawei Enterprise Business Group Energy Sector.

Held at Menara Sarawak Energy over two-days, the event also featured an exhibition with technology partners and was opened to selected schools to allow students to see real life applications of technology in the power industry. The exhibition was graced by a visit from the Chief Minister of Sarawak The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg who was at Menara for the Sarawak Energy Ramah Tamah.

During the launch on Thursday, Group Chief Executive Officer Sharbini Suhaili said that in order to stay relevant, the Sarawak Energy workforce must embrace technology and optimise its usage.

“We want to create awareness in Sarawak Energy of how we currently leverage on technology in our day-to-day operations, and what we can achieve on the digital front. We also want to show to everyone how important technology is to us and how it can be an enabler to achieve our vision,” he said.

He urged Sarawak Energy’s multi-disciplinary workforce to be agile in adapting to changing technology to perform more efficiently, including embracing various digital innovations introduced for its customers as well as the employees .

“ We aim to be a digital utility by 2025 to better serve the people of Sarawak, and by having a culture of openness to the changes, we can move forward together towards a successful transformation. We must embrace technology as part of our delivery mechanism in pursuit of excellence in our key focus areas, in support of and in tandem with the State’s ambition for Sarawak to become a digital economy,” he urged.

“To achieve more efficient and cost effective work processes and service delivery, we have embarked on a suite of corporate-wide process improvement and enterprise-modernisation initiatives under the ‘Pinnacle Programme’. These digital transformation initiatives are at various stages of implementation and cover different aspects of the business including human resource, finance and procurement, asset management as well as fleet management,” he said.

Sarawak Energy is also amongst participating organisations in the State’s digital leadership and competency building programmes like the Digital Leadership Academy driven by Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence or SCOPE.

Also present at the event, which was spearheaded by Sarawak Energy’s Research & Development Department were Group Chief Operating Officer Lu Yew Hung (卢友云), Executive Vice President for Corporate Services Aisah Eden, Vice President for Research and Development Dr Chen Shiun (郑勲), the senior management team and staff.

Earlier in his opening remark, Dr Chen said, “Advanced technologies are upon us but as we look at these technologies, the focus should remain with the people involved and affected and the benefits to them.

“Technologies should be developed and applied to make our services better for our customers, to ensure our employees be more productive, and enable processes to be safer and more environmentally sustainable.”
