Datuk Torstein Dale Sjøtveit has been the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sarawak Energy – a State owned, fully integrated utility company – since November 2009.
Datuk Torstein is responsible for the development, generation, transmission, distribution and retail of electricity, to serve more than 500,000 customers throughout the State of Sarawak. Since his appointment, Datuk Torstein has transformed Sarawak Energy into an agile, modern and commercially-focused corporation, with the company experiencing significant business growth:
- sales of electricity (volume), up 120 per cent,
Datuk Torstein has more than 35 years of experience in the energy sector. Prior to his appointment as the CEO of Sarawak Energy, he was the President and CEO of Europe’s biggest shipbuilding group, Aker Yards ASA/STX Europe ASA. He was also the Executive Vice President for Norsk Hydro and Head of Aluminium Metal.
In 2012, Torstein won the ‘Most Influential Clean Energy Advocate Award’, in conjunction with the 15th Power and Electricity World Asia Conference held in Singapore.
In 2013, he was awarded the Pingat Panglima Gemiland Bintang Kenyalang (P.G.B.K) (Grand Commander of the Order of the Star of Hornbill Sarawak), by the Governor of Sarawak, in recognition of his contributions to Sarawak. This award carries the title of Datuk.
In 2014, Torstein was awarded the Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award in the Oil & Gas, Mining and Energy category at the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards (APEA) BIMP-EAGA 2014.
